SLA announces new geospatial collaborations

March 16th, 2023

The Singapore Land Authority (SLA) has announced various new collaborations to solve challenges through the use of geospatial technology. At the GEO Connect Asia 2023 trade show and conference on the 15th of March, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Sustainability and Environment and Ministry of Transport, Dr Amy Khor, announced the new collaborations.

One of which includes an Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed with the Container Depot and Logistics Association (Singapore), otherwise known as CDAS. This MOU will continue for two years, involving two entities collaborating to use geospatial data on road conditions and restrictions to help route heavy vehicles operated by CDAS’ member companies.

JCube is set to close its doors in August to make way for a 40-storey residential and commercial development, JCube Condo Residence. The launch of JCube Condo Residence set in the Jurong Lake District will add to the alleviation of JCube Residence pent-up demand for housing in the area.

The SLA has also commenced its first bilateral collaboration with the General Authority for Survey and Geospatial Information of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (GEOSA). This proposed three-year collaboration consists of the exchange of knowledge and experiences on developing national geospatial databases, developing Digital Twins, digital transformation in the geospatial industry and developing geospatial products and services.

To assist in the vision of Singapore as an inclusive society in 2030, the SLA has also been working with SG Enable, and Gardens by the Bay, to develop a mapping system of barrier-free routes. This, in turn, is designed to assist wheelchair users when moving around challenging locations. Data regarding these routes, such as those with wheelchair-accessible covered linkways, ramps, footpaths, pedestrian crossings and overhead bridges with lifts, are collected and mapped throughout Bukit Merah and Gardens by the Bay.

A pilot app has been developed by the SLA, featuring all barrier-free access routes. In order to gather feedback and test the accuracy of the app, this will be conducted in six more locations over the next six months. Eventually, the barrier-free access routing function will be added to OneMap, as an additional mode of wayfinding, to supplement the existing public transport, cycling and driving modes.
